The SEEN Digital Net exists to facilitate communication among radio operators in local communities within each state within the Southeast and tie those communities together forming a regional network. SEEN is also affiliated with the American Redout Radio Operators Network (AmRRON) and promotes the popular Channel 3 project. SEEN participates in all of the AmRRON exercises and their persistent presence net.
HF Net (When):
Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM Central
3.585 MHz USB, 900 on the waterfall
We use FLDIGI starting with Contestia 4/250. Traffic transfer is done using MFSK32
We also take early check-ins via JS8CAll and VarAC beginning around 6:00 PM. Informal rag chew up to 6:40 PM
JS8Call is at 1900 and above on the waterfall.
Net Order:
Early check-ins beginning at 6:45 PM Contestia 4/250 900 on the waterfall. Now is the time to turn OFF any beacons, heartbeats, sounders, etc. Also turn OFF the TxID in the upper right of FLDIGI
Make sure the RxID is turned ON (green)
Also a good practice is disable the auto reply in JS8Call during the net.
NCS starts the net at 7:00 PM.
NCS does a short introduction to the net and announces his/her traffic. This is usually (but not always) followed by a brief commentary of NCS choosing.
NCS Takes check-ins
Check-in Roster is sent and request for additional check-ins, relays, or corrections
NCS sends his/her traffic and then directs other stations with traffic to send theirs (if any).
NCS closes the net
Checking into the net is simple. Notice the abbreviation NWOTW. This stands for "Net Word Of The Week". It is a word sent out at the beginning of each net in the introduction usually a scripture reference. Watch for it. The NWOTW is changed every two weeks and is transmitted during the AMRRON National Practice Nets and then sent out over local HF/VHF/UHF nets.
We request you use the following format to check in to the HF net:
DE CALLSIGN CALLSIGN / NAME / COUNTY / STATE / NWOTW / any traffic with precedence
For example if I were checking in I would send:
DE N4WXI N4WXI / Billy / Jefferson / AL / NWOTW / NO TFC
If I had traffic, then instead of "NO TFC", I would indicate how many, and the precedence level, for example: "1 RR".
How and when to send your traffic
All traffic is usually sent in FLAMP using MFSK32. Sometimes an NCS station will opt for FLMSG (his/her choice).
Do not send traffic until the NCS directs you to. Then do the following for each piece of traffic:
Send your traffic
Call for block fills
When all traffic is sent and blocks are filled, return control back to NC. (NC de <yourcall> traffic complete, out)
Please do not change the mode of the net. The NCS will switch modes before and after the passing of traffic
